Right lighting not only makes your room look elegant and pleasant but also accentuates the beauty of your décor. It also has an impact on your mood and the feel of the room.
Living rooms for most families are places they all sit together, watch TV, entertain guests and spend of their time. Living rooms are mostly the hub of all your activities. Therefore it is very important to light your living room to bring the best out of it.
During the daytime, it is very important to let the natural daylight enter into your living room. It activates and freshens up your mood and adds a pleasant brightness to the home.
At night, you would need proper illumination depending upon your activities at the living room.
First you’ve got to know the basic types of lighting that are commonly used in every home –
General lighting – General lighting gives overall illumination to the room. It has a comfortable level of brightness. Wall mounted fixtures, chandeliers, and recessed lights help accomplish this general form of lighting that basically replaces daylight at nighttime.
Task Lighting – Helps you focus on certain tasks. If you are one of those who like knitting or reading in your living room, you could use task lighting. Portable lamps, pendant lights or recessed lights can accomplish task lighting.
Accent Lighting – You can choose accent lighting if you want to highlight your prized artifacts, accessories, paintings, tapestries etc. Track or recessed lights are generally used to highlight things in your rooms.
So depending on your activities you should choose your lighting style. If your family uses the living room to watch TV together, then accent lighting would make the living room appear dull at such bright moments. If your living room has stylish interior decoration that you want to highlight, task lighting can ruin your plans. So be careful while using the lighting style.
