But generally it is observed that before putting plates and bowls in your dishwasher you don’t rinse and scrape the food particles. These tiny food particles, soap scum and grease gets deposited in the crevices around the dishwasher door and in the corners too. - For cleaning your dishwasher door take a small brush your old toothbrush will do the best job. Dip the brush in hot soapy water and scrub the grooves and cervices of the rubber seal. Give special attention at the bottom of the door and around the side hinges.
- To remove dried and baked spots on the grime use a soft abrasive cleaner and scrub well.
- To remove the grime and dirt stirred up with the brush take a sponge and dip it in hot soapy water and wipe it off.
- With the help sponge, scrub the inner side of the door and other obvious areas to remove stuck-on food particles.
- To examine the drain area, pull out the lower rack. To ensure that there are no hard chunks that can clog the drain, wipe around the drain outlet.
- With the help of a clean dishrag or wet sponge wipe the gasket and door. This will ensure removal of cleaning solution deposited on them.
- Now place a dishwasher safe cup filled with white vinegar and run the dishwasher through a cycle using the hottest water available. Make sure that your dishwasher is completely empty.
- Vinegar is helpful in removing the musty odor, loose greasy grime and it sanitizes your dishwasher.
- In case you don’t have white vinegar then you can use a cup of soap mixed with unsweetened lemonade. It is advisable not to experiment with other flavors as it may stain your dishwasher from inside.
- For refreshing and sparkling effect you can even use baking soda. You simply need to sprinkle a cup of baking soda around the bottom of the tub and run your dishwasher through a complete short cycle using hottest water available. Baking soda is also effective in removing stains.

- Though every time it is not possible to pre-wash your dishes before loading them in your dishwasher. But make it a point to scrape off all the leftover food from bowls and plates.
- It is necessary that you load your dishes and other items in appropriate compartments. Make sure that knives are placed with their tips down.
- It is better to provide adequate space between bowls and plates as this will allow proper circulation of water.
- It is advisable to use hottest water available for washing your plates and bowls in dishwasher. This ensures proper removal of dried-on food from your plates and bowls.
It is good to make a routine to clean your dishwasher as it will maintain your appliance in a good condition as well as it will work effectively.
