First Aid At Home

It is very essential that one take safety precautions at home. This is important as it helps one deal effectively if some one is injured at home. Giving immediate attention, rather than waiting for transferring the individual to a nearby hospital may worsen the situation.

Keeping a first aid Kit at home will help reduce the intensity of an injury greatly. What people do not know about first aid kits is that compiling a first aid kit is not a difficult task. It only requires collection of certain medical items, which are not very difficult to obtain.

First-Aid Kit
Items, which should be a part of the first aid kit, are:

  • First-aid manual: This will help you know what you should do when
  • Sterile gauze: To wrap around a wound
  • Adhesive tape: To keep the plaster wound up
  • Adhesive bandages in several sizes, elastic bandage: Which can be wound around the wound
  • Antiseptic wipes, antibiotic cream (triple-antibiotic ointment), antiseptic solution like hydrogen peroxide), hydrocortisone cream (1%), aminophen and ibuprofen: Which helps prevent infection around a wound
  • Soap: To help wash the wound
  • Extra prescription medications (if the family is going on vacation)

Other very important items are:

  • Tweezers
  • Sharp scissors
  • Safety pins
  • Disposable instant cold packs
  • Calamine lotion
  • Alcohol wipes or ethyl alcohol
  • Thermometer
  • Plastic gloves (at least 2 pairs)
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • Your list of emergency phone numbers
  • Blanket (stored nearby)

Keep the kit out of children’s reach. However, let it be easily accessible to you. If any body happens to get injured at home, kindly administer the first-aid kit immediately.
