A garden fountain can be a pleasure or a real eyesore; it depends on how one maintains it. Regular care and attention is important in keeping it clean and neat.
Some tips on maintenance are as follows
Clean the debris from the surface of the fountain regularly. This way there will be less murky water and the pump will not be clogged.
Pull out the water pump and wash it regularly. Clean out the algae and the debris internally.
Over time algae tends to build up on the water surface, which if not treated will clog the pump and bring about a nasty smell. Anti-algae solutions when sprayed in the water will help get rid of this problem.
Hard water flowing in the fountain creates scaly white or pink deposits. There are solutions available in the market that helps get rid of these deposits and prevent new ones from forming.
There is a risk of the pump getting spoilt in the dry season. Reason being the evaporation of water from the surface of the fountain. Therefore it is important that one keeps refilling the fountain or not uses the fountain during summer.
Keep these points in mind and enjoy a clean and well-maintained garden fountain.
