Energy Saving Tips for Your Home
Without energy, many activities that we carry out effortlessly in our daily life can be difficult to perform. Energy adds value to the quality of life we lead in our home and in our workplace. Energy is vital for our world economy. Yet, we all know that the energy we are so dependent on may not last for ever, unless we take measures to save it. There are various ways we can save energy. Energy saving is money saving.
Energy Saving Tips for your Home:
Listed below are some energy saving tips for your home:
- Check Your Home Insulation: A properly insulated room can ensure efficient energy utilization by minimizing the wastage. In the absence of leaks and gaps, entrance of outside air through ducts and electrical outlets can be prevented. This can reduce energy consumption considerably, thereby saving energy.
- Defrost Your Refrigerator: Cleaning and defrosting of refrigerator at least once every 6 months can prevent accumulation of frost. This can help in energy saving by reducing its consumption.
- Follow Cooking Rule: To reduce energy consumption while cooking, you may want to cover your pots and turn down the heat when water starts boiling. This can reduce not only your cooking time, but can help you save energy too.
- Thermostat Usage: You may want to turn down your thermostat while sleeping at night or when you are not using it. For each degree lower in temperature, you can save two percent of energy consumption.
- Use of Geothermal Energy for Home Heating: Experts suggest that using geothermal energy for home might reduce energy usage by 70% as compared to traditional systems. Though, the initial cost can be high, the long term benefit is immense. It can require very less maintenance in 20-30 years period.
- Laundry Usage: Whenever possible, you may try to run your washing machine in full capacity, thereby reducing energy consumption. You can also do some more energy saving by using cold or warm water for your wash cycle, instead of hot water.
All of us may not afford to build alternative energy efficient homes. Doing small things together like saving energy wastage, etc might save our planet. It can save money on our monthly energy bill too!
How is Wind Energy Used at Homes?
Wind energy is used to provide electricity at home, farms, ranches, etc. Small wind turbine can be mounted on the rooftop of our house. Often rooftop mounts come with rubber vibration dampers to reduce vibrations. The turbine is then attached to a propeller. As the wind starts blowing, the propeller rotates and the alternator starts producing electricity.
