Is Your Bathroom Safe for Your Children?
Young children want to explore everything and it is this nature which makes them the most vulnerable lot. Your bathroom can be the most likely place of your house which can pose various potential risks for your children. It is within your hand to avoid any such risks by taking necessary precautions. This can be done through proper supervision or by keeping hazardous items out of reach of children, etc.
Tips to Keep your Bathroom Accident-Free:
Listed below are the tips that can help you keeping your children safe in the bathroom:
- Adult Supervision: When your child is in the bathtub, you may want to stay with her. This can help your child avoid the risk of drowning. Even few minutes of separation can cause serious accident or death. Experts caution that a toddler may drown in even 1 inch of water.
- Check the Water: You may want to check the temperature of the water before putting your toddler in the bathtub. This is because children have tender skin and if the water in the bathtub is too hot, it may scald his skin.
- Keep Electrical Items Out of Reach: Keeping electrical equipments such as hair dryers away from the tub or such other water source can prevent electrocution. As another preventative measure, you may want to empty water from the bathtub when you are no longer using it.
- Place Non-Slip Mat: Non-slip mats come in various attractive colors and sizes. To prevent your child from slipping on the wet floor of your bathroom, you may place a non-slip mat under the tub.
- Rubber Bubble Dispenser: You may want to buy a rubber bubble dispenser to go with the tub faucet. This can prevent your child from hurting himself if he falls or slips on the faucet accidentally.
- Lock the Medicine Cabinets: You may want to lock your medicine cabinets securely so that your children cannot access them. This is because the color of medicines can attract a child. He may mistake medicines for candies and can taste them. You may also want to lock your scissors, razors, or other sharp objects etc. locked inside your cabinet so that your child does not hurt himself.
- Keep the Bathroom Door Closed: You may want to keep the bathroom door closed when not in use so as to prevent his access. This can prevent your child having contact with water inside the bathroom.
These simple suggestions can prevent accidents happening in your bathroom and keep your child safe. You may also want to keep a first-aid kit ready to help you deal with any emergency situation.
