Organic Light Emitting Diodes

Organic light emitting diode, also known as organic light emitting polymer is a light emitting diode whose e missive electroluminescent layer is made up of organic compounds. The layer usually contains polymer substances which allow certain organic compounds to be deposited. These are deposited in rows and columns in a simple printing process. The resulting matrix of pixels can emit light in different colors.

Working of Organic Light Emitting Diode:

  • Organic light emitting diode consists of thin sandwiched layered of materials.
  • When current is supplied the negatively charged electrons in cathode layer moves through organic substances towards the positively charged anode layer.
  • The reverse happens on anode layer, positive charges rush to take place of negative charges in condensive material.
  • These positively charges jump to organic material to recombine with electrons, which causes with electroluminescent light.
  • The chemical combination of organic material dictates which color of light is produced.

Advantages Of Organic Light Emitting Diode:

  • Organic light emitting diode enables greater range of colors, brightness, contrast and viewing angle because its pixels emit light directly.
  • Pixel colors of organic light emitting diode appear correct and un shifted, even if the viewing angle is shifted to 90degrees from normal.
  • Organic light emitting diode produces no light and consumes no power.
  • Organic light emitting diode has faster response time.

Disadvantages Of Organic Light Emitting Diode:

  • The biggest draw back with organic light emitting diode is the limited life time of organic materials.
  • Intrusion of water can destroy or damage organic material
