Every building and house comprises of a roof. This roof can be constructed with the help of different materials. The installment of different roofs varies from locale to locale. The temperature, climate of different places also matters in deciding the type of roofing material which can be used.

Different types of roofing materials are available and depending upon your budget and requirement any of them can be selected. The material of roof varies from clay, metal, wood, slate to fiberglass etc. Any one them can be used according to the desired requirement. The features of these roofs are discussed in this articles:

  • Clay Roofs: The roofs of clay a bit expensive for installation. But are considered to a best material for roofs as clay has the capability to resist to mold, insect and decay. The roofs of clay do not burn and is durable too. The only disadvantage with clay roofs is that they are very heavy and expensive to install. Walking down these roofs is not allowed as walking on such roofs will make them weak.
  • Wood Shingles: Wood shingles are a type of roofing materials which suits to all the types of the homes. These roofs are generally preferred as they can be maintained and repaired easily and also provides good installation. The drawback with wood roofs are that they are not fire resistant unless they are treated under pressure and they can be easily spoiled due to mild dew. The material of wood shingles is slightly expensive too.
  • Metal Roofs: Use of metal for roof installation was very famous during the period of 70s. The popular metals that were frequently used for roofs included copper,zinc and lead. The main reason for their popularity was that they lasted for a very long duration. But they are very expensive to be installed. Now a days Galvanized roofs are available. These roofs are durable and can be easily and quickly installed. They are also capable in resisting from insects, fire, mild dew and rot. They can even face hurricanes too.
  • Slate Roofs: This also a durable material for roof and can not easily destroyed. It is very heavy and can easily bear with the outside influences. Slate used for roofing purposes are usually 100 years old. So they are expensive too. But the best part is that if you use this expensive material for installing your roof you will never have to replace it throughout your life.
