Rust can be seen on any unused iron and it develops easily on such surfaces. There are various products available in the market to remove rusts, but they can be costly. You can yourself prepare a homemade rust remover to your articles from getting eroded and damaged from rusts.

Rusts generally contains oxalic acid, a common toxic substance. It is harmful to health and it can cause erosion of a material. Rusts can also lead to damage of the surrounding materials as well. It can even damage plastic, metal and various other materials. If a rust is formed on your plumbing, then it can create a hole at that place and the water coming out from it will also be rusty leading to a stained surface. Recipes for Homemade Rust Remover

The following are a few recipes which can effectively clean rusts from various surfaces:

  • White vinegar

    A?a��a�? It is an excellent source of rust remover available in home. It can remove rust from all kinds of equipments and machinery which are made of metals. Fill undiluted white vinegar in a spray bottle and spray it on the rust marks. Leave it for at least 2 hours and then wipe the surface with brush till all the rust is removed. Then wash with warm water and dry it under the sunlight. Other vinegars should not be used as they can leave stains on the surfaces on which they are used.

  • Ketchup

    A?a��a�? Ketchup is also a good source for cleaning rusts when used with washing soda. This mixture can effectively clean off rust from furniture made with metals. To clean any rusted surface first spray washing soda using a spray bottle over the rust. Then get some tomato ketchup and apply it on the affected areas where soda has been sprayed. Leave them for at least 2 hours and then wash off with warm water. Dry it completely before use.

  • Borax

    A?a��a�? Borax gently removes the rust from any surface without causing harm to the surface beneath rust. Borax can be easily bought form the market. This powder can be mixed with other cleaning agents to make an effective homemade rust cleaner. To prepare a rust cleaning recipe, you will need sufficient amount of hydrogen peroxide, 1 teaspoon cream of tartar and A�A? cup of borax. Mix all the substances and make a thick paste. Apply this with a spatula on the rusted spots and leave for half an hour. Then clean it with a wet sponge. You will observe that rust spots have disappeared. If borax is not available, you can use baking soda in place of borax.

  • Borax also does wonders when combined with lemon juice. Take A�A? cup of lemon juice and mix with A�A? cup of borax. Apply this paste on the rusted surface and leave for half an hour. If the rust is stubborn, you can give it some more time. Then wipe with a wet rag and the surface will be rust free.
  • Cola

    A?a��a�? Cola can also be used to get rid off rust. Phosphoric acid in cola is an effective rust cleaning agent. This is also the cheapest method to clean rust effectively.

  • Lemon juice

    A?a��a�? Lemon juice is an effective rust cleaner. Mix lemon juice with vinegar or salt and make a homemade rust cleaning recipe. The acidity present in lemon helps clean the rust. Mix 1/3 cup of lemon juice with A�A? cup vinegar. Soak a sponge in this solution and clean the rusted surface.

  • Similarly, mix A�A? cup salt in enough lemon juice and make a thick paste. Rub this mixture on the rusted surface and leave it for 10 minutes. Then, wipe with a cloth and the rust will disappear.
  • Rhubarb

    A?a��a�? It is an effective cleaner for removing rust stains from cloth. Boil fresh cut rhubarb in a pot and strain the water. Soak the cloth with rust stain in it for 1 to 8 hours depending on the severity of the stain. Wash the fabric normally after you take it out from rhubarb water.
